Bio-statistics and Research Methodology

1. Definition :Biostatistics is the branch of statistics responsible for the proper interpretation of scientific data generated in the biology, public health and other health sciences (i.e., the biomedical sciences). In these sciences, subjects (patients, mice, cells, etc.) exhibit considerable variation in their response to stimuli. This variation may be due to different treatments or it may be due to chance, measurement error, or other characteristics of the individual subjects. Biostatistics is particularly concerned with disentangling these different sources of variation.

Data visualization in project management

WORKSHOP ON DATA VISUALIZATION IN
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Date:

29-31st October,2018 (Monday-Wednesday)
Organized by
Psychology Research Unit

Background and Objective: A project manager's world is already full of data visualizations, designed to transform complex and voluminous data into simple, effective communication tools. Traditional visualizations such as Gantt charts (bar chart that illustrates a project schedule)PERT chart (how much time is needed to complete each task following critical path method), PARETO chart (visualizes the most important or critical items among a set),  work breakdown structures, Timelines ( visuals that show important events labeled in chronological order on linear time scale), Fishbone diagrams ( Cause and Effect diagrams. They illustrate all the possible factors that could cause an outcome),  Kanban boards (visuals to manage sequential completion of work items or tasks).  and the like are beneficial in their own way, but they don't tell the collective story of overall project status and/or performance. Classical approach of Henry Fayol's project management theories are to be revised on new multivariate models as nothing is certain. Project managemt for making pyramid followed mechanistic model but project management is more organisimic. It considers theory of uncertainty, multidimensional risk perception and customer attitude or need based driven model. Psychology Research Unit has observed how project target is not met due to faulty planning, faulty identification of beneficiaries and misused of budget. By the systematic researches, unit has observed lack of awarenness about project materials, regular project evaluation. Another major lacuna is more emphasis on table based or long text based reporting of the data. The unit feels knowledge of data visualization will help the project managers to take real time appropriate action plans in project management.

This workshop aims at exploring uses and applications of different data visualization tools in project management through selected paper presentations. Two day workshop will be arranged for teaching  data visualization tools used in the project management.

Time line

Day 1: Inauguration, Invited papers presentation on data visualization tools in project management.
Day 2:

  • Papers on data visualization tools in project management (before lunch).
  • Beginner course on R-Programming for simple statistics (after lunch)

Day3: Beginner course on R-Programming for Advanced statistics and Certificate distribution.
